Flexible aluminised microporous panel

SilthermAluFlex

Space-efficient thermal insulation that follows demanding equipment geometry.

AluFlex is a thin, flexible microporous panel with a water-repellent aluminised envelope. It follows curved high-temperature equipment where rigid insulation is difficult to fit.

Material architecture

An aluminised envelope around one composite microporous core.

The aluminised envelope protects one composite microporous core and keeps the panel clean to handle.

01

Aluminised envelope

Clean handling and a water-repellent outer surface.

The fully encapsulated panel is designed to be handled, bent and manipulated. Its covering helps protect the microporous core if contact occurs with moisture-laden castables or mortars.

02

Microporous core

Opacified pyrogenic-silica matrix with dispersed filament reinforcement.

The inorganic core provides the product's thermal-resistance layer. Product values remain conditional on grade, test method, mean temperature and the stated pure-core test basis.

SYSTEM BOUNDARY

Equipment interface

System boundary, not a material layer.

Geometry, compression, fixing, joints and the surrounding refractory construction determine how the panel can be integrated. AluFlex data alone is not an equipment-level result.

Geometry and installation

Fit the panel to the equipment curve.

The panel bends to follow the equipment and can be laid out around the required coverage and joint pattern.

Possible AluFlex discussion position in a ladle cross-sectionA non-dimensional line drawing marks only a possible lower-wall and bottom-transition backup-insulation position behind the refractory lining.POSSIBLE BACKUPINSULATION POSITION

Start at the protected shell, locate the refractory boundary, then trace the available backup-insulation zone. For a ladle discussion, the red path identifies only a possible lower-wall and bottom-transition position; it does not state thickness, full coverage or an installation instruction.

01

Locate

Name the hot face, refractory build-up and protected shell.

02

Conform

Review curve, panel orientation, joints and available thickness.

03

Retain

Select suitable adhesive, pins, anchors, straps or wire for the construction.

04

Seal

Seal cut edges with aluminium self-adhesive tape where required.

Thermal performance

Select the grade before reading the curve.

ASTM C177 data shows how the microporous core performs at each mean temperature. Select the grade before sizing the installed panel field.

Thermal conductivity / ASTM C177 / microporous core specimen / W/mK
Classification temperature1000 C
Nominal density300 kg/m3 +/- 10%
Cold compressive strength0.33 MPa at 10% deformation
200 C0.022
400 C0.023
600 C0.027
800 C0.032

Technical performance

Thermal data for the selected AluFlex grade.

Thermal values describe the microporous core specimen. We can help translate the selected grade into the installed panel layout.
